2009 Annual Meeting

The VML Insurance Programs 2009 Annual Meeting took place on Friday, May 15th , 2009 at The Place at Innsbrook in Richmond, Virginia. This year's meeting was a huge success, attendance was high and the topics chosen by our speakers were invaluable. Aside from attendees receiving very useful information on a wide variety of topics, several of our members were recognized for their outstanding performance throughout the year.

Richard J. Garza, Hazardous Materials/Safety Officer for the City of Manassas, shared the city's safety incentive program and how they recognize their employees' contributions to creating a safe work environment. Dan Sulzner, of Midwest Casualty, taught our members how to use data to focus their loss prevention effectively, how to identify trends and patterns and how to use data information to develop successful loss prevention programs. David Zuby, Senior VP of Vehicle Research with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety discussed new vehicle designs and the potential for new crash avoidance technologies. Last but not least, Commissioner Roger Williams of the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission informed members of what to expect in the future as well as the changes that the commission made in the last year. He also discussed the Electronic Data Exchange project.

As in previous years, one of the major highlights of the meeting was the awards presentations. This year's winners include some new names and faces as well as others that have been recognized previously.
