VML Insurance Programs Annual General Meeting 2007
The Annual General Meeting was held May 18, 2007 at The Place at Innsbrook in Richmond . This year there was a great turn out with 130 members and staff attending.
The morning session was started off with a warm greeting by Brannon Godfrey, Jr., VML Insurance Programs board member and Manager for the Town of Culpeper . Jeremy Carroll, shareholder from Glenn, Fledman , Darby & Goodlatte gave a speech on Employment Law Issues. This was followed by James Thorsen , partner at Thorsen & Scher , LLP, with a speech on Plaintiff Attorney's Perspective . Then later in the morning Rick Lucas, owner at Lucas & Associates gave a speech on Workers' Compensation Trends .
The annual awards were given. This year's winners were:
2007 Margaret A. Nichols Risk Management Leadership Award ? Alexandria Sanitation Authority
The Leadership Award is presented annually to the one member that best demonstrates an innovative, proactive approach to preventing accidents and incidents while meeting all applicable recommended Risk Management Guideline criteria.

Life Saver Award ? Stephanie Gray, Human Resource Generalist at Valley Community Services Board
This award is given to a person who helps save the life of another. Ms. Gray helped saved the life of a client who had stopped breathing as a result of a seizure. Once the seizure had sudsided, Ms. Gray noticed the client had stopped breathing. She began to perform rescue breathing until the client began to breathe on her own, shortly before the rescue squad arrived.

The business meetings for VMLP and VMGSIA were then held. Minutes from those meetings are in this newsletter. The afternoon was topped off by Tim Ailsworth, Deputy Director at VML Insurance Programs giving legislative updates. Beth Rosenthal, Director of Safety at VML Insurance Programs then discussed Loss Trends and Effective Tools to Control Them .
